YMCA Youth BEAT (Breakthrough to Employment And Training) is a free online program that supports individuals to gain the confidence, skills, and experience needed to enter the labour market. YBEAT is offered both in the Lower Mainland and the Fraser Valley.

This holistic program provides participants with a wealth of job search support and tools for managing their mental health. The groups run as 5 weeks of group-based online workshops followed by 12 weeks of support while participants enter employment or further training/education.

More specifically, the program provides:

  • 1 on 1 career planning, mentoring and coaching
  • Short-term certificate training based on employment goals and requirements of hiring employer (eg. WHMIS, Food Safe etc.)
  • Job placement and follow up
  • Between $600 and $1000 in bonus incentives for successful completion of the program and employment outcomes
  • Other supports provided as needed

To participate in the program, youth must be between 17 and 29 years old, a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Confirmed Refugee, unemployed or precariously employed (working less than 20 hours per week), not attending full-time school, and experiencing some form of mental health barrier to finding and/or maintain employment.
